Dont Ask the Lady…!
Julie’s acclaimed one-woman show, Don’t Ask the Lady…!, is a celebration of 20th century female songwriters. Through her ’special blend of humorous and touching cabaret’, you’ll discover rarely heard gems and popular ‘classics’, as well as hear the stories of how these wonderful songs came to life!
Devised by Julie, the show began as a segment in an existing cabaret show. While choosing songs for this show, she realised that most had been written, at least in part, by women. This segment quickly expanded to become a show in itself, and has had several successful London West End outings, including Jermyn Street Theatre, Tristan Bates Theatre, Leicester Square Studio Theatre, Above the Arts (now the Covent Garden Social Club) and Crazy Coqs at Brasserie Zedel.
“Women have been writing songs for as long as their male counterparts,” says Julie, “but sadly, most of their work has been lost or never even saw the light of day. It was not considered ‘women’s work’, and like in most fields over the centuries, men were the dominant force.” Julie adds: “I devised Don’t Ask the Lady…! as a celebration of the women whose creative spirit and determination overcame these obstacles!”
‘…a clever, witty cabaret packed with show-stopping, foot-tapping and heart-warming songs. This is an evening and a personality to remember.’

‘Ross… holds her audience spellbound. The passion with which she delivers both the songs and the stories behind them…leaves me salivating for more.’

‘Ross…doesn’t just sing, she interprets. I have always loved the melody of Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now but never quite understood the lyric. But in the hands of Ross’s heartfelt vocals that seem to reflect life experience, the meaning became clear, and it brought tears to my eyes.’

‘There are far too many wonderful moments to mention in one review. An irrefutable and inspiring talent.’
